Melvin's Medical Expenses
This was Melvin when we rescued him. He was severely emaciated, had pneumonia and ended up in the emergency room for a few days. Although he began putting on weight and appeared to be getting better, the vets noticed a mass in his belly and could not figure out why his anemia continued. As a result, we took him to specialists for an ultrasound, ex rays and blood tests.

We were thrilled that his ultrasound only showed an enlarged spleen and was not a tumor but we were told he probably suffered from Babesia, which is very expensive to treat. The blood tests confirmed that Melvin has Babesia and we must provide the combination medication of Mepron and azithromycin for 10 days. The lowest price we can find for the Mepron is approximately $1,120. We also must purchase the azithromycin, conduct additional tests at the vet to be sure the medication is working.

In addition to all of this, poor Melvin's teeth are in horrible condition. He needs detal work and teeth pulled and still must be neutered.

The following are the costs included in the amount we are hoping to raise to give Melvin the proper medical care:

Mepron - $1,120
Azithromycin - $60
Blood tests for anemia - $116
Babesia panel - $135
Surgery (dental & neuter) - $789

WE ARE A 501(C)(3) TAX EXEMPT ORGANIZATION AND DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We keep everyone posted on Melvin's status on our Facebook page and will provide all donors with a written receipt and a status update on Melvin.
